With interests in foreign policy and international advocacy, what better place for Megan Pynes to be than “the” major political center: Washington, D.C.?
Three current students and seven recent alumni of the UC Davis College of Letters and Science have been selected to receive Graduate Research Fellowships (GRFP) from the National Science Foundation (NSF).
NyNy (Phuong) Vu was born in Vietnam and came to California with her family when she was six years old. Growing up in an immigrant neighborhood in Sacramento, NyNy saw first-hand the impact of environmental problems on underprivileged communities. “My goal in high school was to grow up to help the immigrant community,” she said.
Back-to-school time at the UC Davis College of Letters and Science means a rededication to our mission as a liberal arts powerhouse. More than ever, we’re focused on growing our students’ intellectual adaptability, critical thinking, and collaborative commitment to improving themselves and the world around them.
Francisco X. Alarcón broke ground as a poet, writing in English, Spanish and the native language Nahuatl, creating poetry for children, and was an early, openly gay Chicano poet. A long-time continuing lecturer in Spanish at UC Davis, he died Jan. 15.
