William Jackson Honored for Research and Mentoring

In recognition of his accomplishments in analyzing the chemistry of comets and advancing scientists of color, William M. Jackson, Jr., distinguished professor emeritus of chemistry in the UC Davis College of Letters and Science, will receive the 2019 Arthur B.C. Walker II Award from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP).

Alumnus Robert Oden Was on the Front Lines of Change

When UC Davis students were calling for more student and faculty diversity and culturally inclusive programs, Robert Stanley Oden was on the front lines. One of only 40 African American students on campus in 1967, he was a founder of the Black Student Union, the first such group on campus, and wrote a column for The California Aggie called “The Dark Side.”

Historian Wins Equity Prize

Associate Professor Lorena Oropeza received the 2017 Equity Award from the American Historical Association last week for excellence in recruiting and retaining historians from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.

MEXUS-CONACYT Doctoral Fellowships Attract Talented Graduate Students

UC Davis leads its fellow campuses in enrollment through the UC MEXUS-CONACYT Doctoral Fellowship Program. One of the talented graduate students is Natalia Lopez Carranza in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, who is studying the evolution of marine invertebrates that date back more than 500 million years.
