'CULTIVATION' Celebrates Asian and South Asian Cultural Contributions to the Region

As the fruit trees bloom, seeds sprout and gardens fill with flowers, the UC Davis Humanities Institute will delve into the rich cultural landscape of California in the next few months with its year-long public initiative, “CULTIVATION: Food, Farming, and Heritage in the Sacramento Valley and Beyond.” The upcoming events are focused on Asian and South Asian contributions.

Asiatic Society Honors UC Davis India Scholar

Sudipta Sen, a professor of history and Middle East/South Asian studies, was recently awarded a Sir Williams Jones Memorial Medal from the Asiatic Society of India for his influential work on the history of South Asia. Sen is a historian of the late Mughal and early British India and the British Empire, and of the environment. 

Countering Islamophobia Through The Media

With hate crimes against Muslim Americans on the rise—and Muslim women in headscarves a frequent target—a UC Davis professor is launching a program to better educate future U.S. journalists about Islamic cultures and Muslim women.
