2018 - Jodi Connelly

Jodi Connelly (M.F.A., art, '18)  has been awarded the first ever Ali Youssefi artist residency award. The award includes studio space and a solo exhibition (December 2019 - February 2020) at the Verge Center for the Arts in Sacramento and a monthly stipend.  Connelly’s work investigates the complexities of the human relationship to nature and the environment.

Tavarus Blackmon (M.F.A., art, ’18) has been making art his entire life. First comics as a kid, then experimental music, tattoos, video and film, short stories, poetry, painting, and now art that brings it all together. His work gives viewers a noisy, candy-colored, loop-the-loop ride that journeys to darker places, and tackles issues of poverty, labor, and violence.

Pulitzer and National Book Award Finalist Kicks Off Writers Series

The UC Davis Department of English Creative Writing Reading Series starts Nov. 18 with Jos Charles, whose poetry collection feeld was a 2019 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and longlisted for a National Book Award. The series, co-sponsored by the UC Davis Library, continues in 2020 with a wide range of writers, including poets who are also visual artists, novelists and non-fiction writers exploring immigration, race, love, pop culture and language.

Many Disciplines Come Together for One Big Show

Students from seven disciplines — art, design, art history, music, theatre, creative writing and French — will be part of the annual Arts and Humanities Graduate Exhibition at UC Davis.

1987 - Eve Aschheim

Eve Aschheim (MFA, Studio Art, ’87) was recently inducted into the National Academy of Design. Aschheim has taught at  Princeton University since 1991 and served as art program director from 2004 to 2007. Aschheim’s work is shown internationally and been included in the textbooks Drawing, Structure and Vision and Drawing, A Contemporary Approach. She has won awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Joan Mitchell Foundation, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
