As a UC Davis associate professor in the Department of Chemistry at the College of Letters and
Science, Jesús Velázquez employs his chemistry expertise to synthesize
materials useful for environmental remediation, transforming carbon dioxide-based
waste streams, and energy conversion and storage. With his sights set on transforming
the world for the better through chemistry, Velázquez, ever humble, never fails to thank
the family members and academic mentors who guided his life path. Their imprint
echoes into today, informing how he mentors and teaches.
Assistant professor Jesús Velázquez, a material chemist in the UC Davis College of Letters and Science, is one of 18 faculty in the U.S. selected as Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholars for 2022. These faculty are within the first five years of their academic careers, have each created an outstanding independent body of scholarship and are deeply committed to education. Each Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar receives an unrestricted research grant of $100,000.
UC Davis Global Affairs awarded grants to four College of Letters and Science faculty for international projects focused on renewable energy, biodesign, tuberculosis and democracy.
Jesús M. Velázquez,assistant professor of chemistry, and colleagues at UC Davis and in Mexico received a $7,500 award from a Global Affairs grant program aimed at achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Assistant professor of chemistry Jesús Velázquez has received a $100,000 Cottrell Scholar Award for his leadership in research and education. He is one of 25 scholars throughout the U.S. given the award in 2020, and the first UC Davis professor recognized with the award.
