William “Bill” Haworth recently retired as chief strategist for IFC’s Financial Institutions Group (part of World Bank), where he served for 14 years. While he is still involved in the financial sector strategy formulation for IFC, he is currently based in Northern California and consulting independently on strategic issues related to the global economy and local financial institution development in emerging markets. Prior to joining IFC, Mr. Haworth was a partner in several major consulting firms dealing with financial sector development, institutional restructuring and privatization. He has worked globally in more than 40 countries on institutional reform and performance improvement in commercial banking, capital markets and central banking. Prior to consulting, Mr. Haworth worked for 12 years as a credit officer and a risk asset reviewer, and has 16 years of financial sector consulting experience with leading firms.
Mr. Haworth is a certified financial risk manager through the Global Association of Risk Professionals, and has a FinTech Certificate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His prior education includes an MBA from UC Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from UC Davis.
Mr. Haworth and his wife Susi are both deeply committed to the University of California. They serve on the UC Davis DC (Dean's Council) Regional Advisory Board, and she is a board member on the Aggie Parent Family Association (AFPA) Out-of-State and International Committee. Their daughters, Victoria and Eleanor, are UC Berkeley and UC Davis students respectively. Mr. Haworth’s mother (UC Berkeley '49) earned her teaching credential at UC Davis in 1968 to help pay for his college education.
