Course Description:

This class surveys basic principles of physics in a particular topic. This quarter's topic will be Biomedical Imaging. This course will introduce cutting-edge imaging techniques primarily used in medicine, with emphasis on their physical foundations, implementation, and  applications. Concepts will be explored through lectures, readings, in-class activities, hands-on activities, and interactive simulations. Elementary concepts from wave theory, modern physics, electromagnetism, and optics will be introduced (no prior knowledge required) and used to explain ultrasound, X-ray based imaging, radionuclide-based imaging, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fluorescence-guided surgery, and laparoscopy/colonoscopy.

Prerequisites: No physics background required
