Course Description:

This course will focus on advanced Spanish grammar and composition. We will think of writing as a process: a cycle of drafting, giving and receiving feedback, and revising in response to that feedback, one that writers repeat and refine with every new draft. For every writing assignment, students will have multiple opportunities to give and receive feedback from peers, the instructor, and writing tutors before submitting a final draft. Furthermore, rather than treating grammar as a decontextualized set of rules to review, we will approach grammar and vocabulary as rhetorical resources: tools that help us meet our communicative goals within a specific genre and for a specific audience. We will also work across the different levels of writing (sentence structure, paragraph structure, and the logic of argumentation). The goal of this course is to develop students' rhetorical skills and their awareness of genre and audience, alongside advanced Spanish writing and linguistic skills.
