Course Description:
What happens when a literary voice crosses into another language? In this hands-on course, students will learn to translate Russian poetry, prose, song lyrics, and other literary texts into English.
Working with both canonical and lesser-known voices of the twentieth century, they will examine how translators recreate style, rhythm, humor, irony, idiom, and cultural meaning — moving beyond word-for-word translation to produce stylistically appropriate, idiomatic English versions of Russian texts.
POETRY • PROSE • SONG • LYRICS
