Course Description:

The concept of Human Rights holds a great deal of moral weight in society. Every day, politicians and activists alike invoke the name of Human Rights in an attempt to protect the dignity of human lives everywhere. But what are Human Rights? Where did they really come from? And do they really protect the people that need them most? In HMR 140A, we will learn about the birth of the Human Rights Idea, how it has changed over time, and the vital role that popular culture has played in the way we understand them.
