We hope you can join us for our information session on Aggie Day to learn more about the Student Transition and Retention (STaR) Program! The STaR Program is the College of Letters and Science's premiere support program for first year, first-generation college students in the College of Letters of Science. You'll get to hear what our program is all about from program instructors, peer mentors, program staff, and current STaR students. Find out how we can be your community (and home away from home) when you come to UC Davis!
About STaR
The Student Transition and Retention (STaR) Program was created to bridge the gap from high school to college, provide the success tools and methodology (strategies) required for optimal success in college, and offer a community of support.
Historically, first-generation college students arrive at the university with non-traditional challenges and families who would love to support them but may not possess the knowledge and means with which to do so. In addition, a preparation gap exists between high school and college.

STaR Webinar for Newly Admitted First-Gen, First-Years
Can't make the in-person session on Aggie Day? Although you will be missed and we would love the opportunity to connect with you in-person, we understand if you have other activities on your agenda. Fortunately, we have another option to connect with our team at a later date, virtually via Zoom!
Much like our session on Aggie Day, it will feature our program staff members, instructors, and peer mentors. We will foster a welcoming space, go over our program, give the chance to ask questions and connect with us!

STaR's History
STaR was developed by one of our dedicated advisors, Mike Valenzuela who, as a first-generation Latinx college student, felt out of place and like he didn't belong in college. His experience inspired him to build a program that would empower students like him to thrive, connect, and find a community that they'll have throughout their time at UC Davis and beyond.
