
Five Faculty From College of Letters and Science Elected as AAAS Fellows
Five faculty from the UC Davis College of Letters and Science were recently elected as new fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the society announced Jan. 31. Eight faculty members in total from UC Davis were elected as fellows this year.
AAAS fellows are scientists, engineers and innovators who have been recognized for their achievements across disciplines ranging from research, teaching and technology, to administration in academia, industry and government, to excellence in communicating and interpreting science to the public.
Here are the new fellows from the College of Letters and Science, with their AAAS citations:

Annaliese Franz
Professor, Department of Chemistry
“For contributions to catalysis and synthesis emphasizing organosilicon chemistry and biofuel production, and for the championship of diversity, equity and inclusion among faculty and students.”

Sarah B. Hrdy
Professor Emerita, Department of Anthropology
“For distinguished contributions to the field of evolutionary anthropology, particularly for understanding mammalian reproductive strategies and the evolution of human families and societies.”

Lynne A. Isbell
Professor, Department of Anthropology, Evolutionary Wing
“For innovative scholarship and leadership in primatology and biological anthropology.”
Roberta L. Millstein
Professor Emerita, Department of Philosophy
“For distinguished scholarship and service to the history and philosophy of biology.”

Frank E. Osterloh
Professor, Department of Chemistry
“For contributions to inorganic and materials chemistry with applications in energy conversion.”
An induction ceremony for the new fellows is scheduled during the AAAS annual meeting, to be held this year in Washington, D.C., on March 2-5.
AAAS was founded in 1848 and has become the world’s largest general scientific society. The publisher of Science and other journals, the society’s mission is to “advance science and serve society” through initiatives in science policy, international programs, science education, public engagement and more.
