7 Letters and Science Faculty Join Society of Hellman Fellows

Seven faculty members in the College of Letters and Science have been named to the newest class of the UC Davis Society of Hellman Fellows.  They are among 15 assistant professors across UC Davis awarded 2021-22 Hellman Fellowships, which provide research funding to faculty members when they need it the most: early in their careers.

Design Student’s Interactive Map Links Public to COVID-19 Testing Sites

When UC Davis design major Matthew Kwong began looking online for places to get tested for COVID-19, he found little and bad information. He figured if finding a testing site was difficult for a tech-savvy 20-year-old, for others — especially vulnerable and elderly populations — it would be nearly impossible. So, he spent months creating an interactive COVID-19 testing site map.

For These Design Students, the Campus is the Lab

For many students, research involves donning white coats, gloves and goggles, and going into a lab. But for students in Advanced Interior Architecture, the entire UC Davis campus is their lab.

Designing It Forward

Ronald Whitney-Whyte (B.S., design, ’75) has made a planned gift of $1 million to the College to support undergraduates majoring in design. Whitney-Whyte’s gift will establish two endowed funds, one to provide students with supplies and the other to support scholarships for junior and senior design majors.

Hellman Fellowships Give Early-Career Faculty a Research Boost

Seven assistant professors in the College of Letters and Science have been named to UC Davis’ newest class of Hellman Fellows. The Hellman Fellows Fund provides grants to more than 100 junior faculty members annually at all 10 UCs and four private institutions. The fellowships of up to $50,000 are intended to give early-career faculty extra support for their research.
