Minor only
The role of medicine extends far beyond doctor-patient relationships; it encompasses many important aspects of personal and societal organization, from personal health beliefs to the role of global health systems. Understanding medicine is not solely about science — cross-cultural communication, ethics, historical traditions, and the role of technology are all necessary components of the modern medical experience. The Medical Humanities minor introduces these important dimensions to medicine and healthcare, allowing students to work at the intersection of humanities and scientific principles. The Medical Humanities minor equips students to take on the big questions such as: What is the role of technology in caring for people? How have ideas about disease changed over time? How are diseases understood in different cultures? The minor also cultivates self-awareness in both the ability to empathize with other people while maintaining the clarity of the personal limitations that comes with cultural humility. The minor acts as an important to any student looking to pursue a career in any medical-related field, or any discipline in which humanities and science intersect, such as bioethics or physical therapy.
