Bio

Mike has well over 25 years of higher education experience, 12 of which are based in educational equity programming for engineering and science students. Originally from Southern California, he began his career at Cal Poly Pomona in the Minority Engineering Program as a Transition Counselor. He has a large amount of experience in working with and advising both underrepresented minority and first-generation college students.

He initially arrived at UC Davis to take over the Directorship of the MESA Engineering Program, but has since transitioned to the College of Letters and Science where he applies his skillset to a broader population. Most recently, he created and instructed in a sequence of courses designed to address the transitional needs of first-generation college students and any others who would benefit. He applies his own experience as a first-generation and underrepresented minority student himself, to educate and guide students through the rigors of college from an experiential perspective.

Mike is an alumnus of Long Beach State University.
