John Clift

Position Title
International Academic Advisor

  • Undergraduate Education and Advising
Bio

John Clift began at UC Davis in March 2016. Though John is an International Advisor, he still has a strong affinity for working with first-generation college students, having been one himself.

After serving in the United States Air Force, John received his B.A. and M.F.A. degrees in Studio Art from the University of Maryland, College Park (Go Terps!). John began his Academic Advising at UMCP as a graduate student, loved the work immediately and decided then to make Academic Advising a career path. Prior to UC Davis, John worked as a Senior Academic Advisor, an Assistant Campus Director for Advising, and most recently as the First Year and International Advisor (PDSO).

John has lived in Spain, England and traveled to 26 countries. Having participated in a UMCP Study Abroad program in London, he encourages students to find a program abroad and just go. He views the lifelong benefits of living as an expatriate on the local economy far outweigh any temporary concerns for expense.

He considers Star Wars a documentary.
