Statistics Majors Outgrow National Trends

With outstanding growth in statistics majors in the past decade, UC Davis is now among the top five U.S. universities for number of undergraduate degrees granted in statistics, the American Statistical Association recently reported.

Statistics and Space: Three New AAAS Fellows

Three faculty members of the College of Letters and Science are among the 10 UC Davis faculty elected to the 2019 class of fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications. The new fellows are Jiming Jiang, professor of statistics; Thomas C.M. Lee, professor of statistics; and Sarah Stewart, professor of earth and planetary sciences.

Xiaodong Li Wins NSF Career Award

Xiaodong Li, assistant professor of statistics in the UC Davis College of Letters and Science, has received a prestigious CAREER award from the National Science Foundation. The NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) program supports junior faculty who perform outstanding research, are excellent educators, and integrate outreach in their work.

Statistics Fellowship for Professor Debashis Paul

Professor of Statistics Debashis Paul has been elected to Fellowship in the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. IMS Fellowship honors the outstanding research and professional contributions of members in the field of statistics and probability. Each newly-elected Fellow will be presented with a plaque during the IMS awards ceremony on July 29, 2019, at the Joint Statistical Meetings/IMS Annual Meeting in Denver.
