Bio

As the director of the Governing Institute, a think tank and affiliate of Governing magazine working to advance better state and local government, Julia Burrows contributes her extensive knowledge to the UC Davis Government and Public Policy Alumni Group. Mrs. Burrows facilitates the Governing Institute’s Women in Government Leadership Program and works with the institute’s senior fellows, former Public Officials of the Year, and public policy schools to highlight best practices at conferences, webinars, and partner events. Prior to joining Governing, Mrs. Burrows was president of Greenwise Joint Venture, established by Mayor Kevin Johnson to grow the green economy in the Sacramento region, and served as a special advisor to the mayor. She previously served 22 years with the City of Roseville in various roles, including deputy city manager and economic development director. Mrs. Burrows earned a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental policy analysis and planning from UC Davis.
