Between 2014 and 2018, the Department of Statistics granted 530 bachelor’s degrees. During the same period, the number of graduates in the major rose from 54 in 2014 to 179 in 2018. The department has also expanded the programs available to majors, with options for specializing in machine learning, computational statistics, data science, and more.

The surge in statistics majors at UC Davis outpaces national trends. In the U.S., there were 4.6 times more statistics bachelor’s degrees awarded in 2018 than in 2010, according to the report. In the UC Davis College of Letters and Science, the numbers rose more than 800%, from 22 graduates with bachelor’s degrees in 2010 to 201 graduates in 2019.
