1992 - Heidi Sanborn

Heidi Sanborn (B.A., political science - public service, ’92) was sworn in Jan. 17 as a member of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s board of directors.

She ran unopposed in 2018 for the seat representing SMUD Ward 7, which includes North Highlands, Carmichael, Antelope and Foothill Farms.

Sanborn works for two nonprofit organizations dedicated to reducing waste, increasing recycling, and advocating for a circular economy, where manufacturers help pay the costs of recycling their products. She is the founder and executive director for the National Stewardship Action Council and also serves as senior advisor of the California Product Stewardship Council.

She is also a past president of the Sacramento Chapter of the National Alliance for Mental Illness and is a longtime volunteer with Front Street Animal Shelter.

In addition to her UC Davis degree, she also earned her master’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California.
